Public Image Limited Album Sessions

Work on new material under way

Public Image Limited have confirmed that they are working on their first new album in 17 years.

The long, bewildering story of Public Image Limited continues. Centred on John Lydon, the post-punk group have released some truly seminal material including 1979’s groundbreaking ‘Metal Box’ set.

Placed on hiatus in 1992, PiL re-united just over two years ago. Playing a number of special shows, the band decided to perform their classic album ‘Metal Box’ in its entirety.

Hinting at new material, John Lydon spoke at length of the need to match their back catalogue. Now PiL have confirmed that work has begun on new material at a secret location somewhere in the UK.

Little is known about the new recordings, although Lydon has been joined by the current PiL line up: Lu Edmonds – Guitar, Bruce Smith – Drums and Scott Firth – Bass.

The band’s first album since 1992’s ‘That What Is Not’ sessions were initially due to begin last year. However John Lydon lost his step-daughter Ari Up to cancer, and withdrew from the public gaze to be with his family.

Roaring back earlier this year, Public Image Limited are now said to be working on fresh material somewhere “in the outskirts of knowhere”.

There is no release date as yet, with more details expected to be confirmed over the coming weeks.
