Prince Auditions New Drummer

During Minneapolis shows...

Prince has auditioned a new drummer during a series of last minute shows in Minneapolis.

Prince might be a globally recognised icon, but that doesn't mean the songwriter isn't fond of throwing fans the odd curveball or two. The singer's latest trick is to schedule six last minute shows in Minneapolis, using the Dakota Jazz Club as a base, in order to explore his latest group of musicians.

Recently hooking up with a new drummer, Prince has decided to audition the percussionist in a live environment. Tickets for the shows are priced between $20 and $200, with all passes for the sets quickly selling out.

Seemingly Prince will play two "sound check" sets next Wednesday, before performing two jam sessions on Thursday night and two "surprise" shows on Friday night.

Rolling Stone gathered the details, which has sparked rumours of a wider tour later in the year.

In the opening hours of 2013 a 'new' Prince song arrived online, although 'Same Page Different Book' has yet to be verified as official. Unveiled via Twitter, some fans have suggested that the move is part of a wider viral campaign which could reveal itself later in 2013. Or it could just be a leak.

Here's Prince performing 'Rock 'n' Roll Love Affair' on 'Jimmy Kimmel'.
