Primal Scream are set to re-issue their classic track 'Velocity Girl'.
A masterpiece in miniature, 'Velocity Girl' doesn't even reach the 90 second mark but seems to neatly define everything that was great about the first wave of indie pop.
The B-side on their ‘Crystal Crescent’ release, it claimed a spot on the seminal C86 compilation, and the single has remained a key reference point for generations of bowl-cut clad indie outfits.
Set to appear on Primal Scream's incoming singles compilation 'Maximum Rock 'N' Roll', 'Velocity Girl' has been spruced up for a new re-issue.
Out now digitally, a vinyl pressing lands on May 24th – it's first re-press since the single's initial release back in 1986.
A full video has been shot for 'Velocity Girl' starring Andy Warhol superstar Edie Sedgwick, utilising footage from the film Ciao! Manhattan.
“I had an Edie Sedgwick type character in mind when I wrote ‘Velocity Girl’,” says Bobby Gillespie. “I read Jean Stein’s biography about her and I wanted to meet a girl like that. Hanging out with Warhol, The Velvet Underground , Bob Dylan and shooting speed whilst looking absolutely fabulous. Super hip and beautiful. She was the muse. I love her.”
