The Paralympic Games are set to close in just a few hours, with Coldplay set to appear at a no doubt spectacular ceremony.
The summer has been dominated by enormous set pieces. Musically, the Olympic opening ceremony was an overwhelming success, matching an intricate visual flair with some of the finest artists Britain has produced.
Now comes the closing ceremony of the Paralympic games. Team GB has once again done the nation proud, with the country discovering a series of new sporting heroes.
The closing ceremony opens at 8.30pm tonight (September 9th) with Coldplay, Jay-Z and Rihanna all scheduled to appear alongside a cast of 1200 people. “The idea is the coming together as one,” artistic director Kim Gavin said recently. “We are known as a nation for having the most festivals, it is something that we do – with 600 festivals a year.
“We pay tribute to the all the human spirit and achievement through this wonderful sport of the last two weeks.”
