Pretenders Innovative Release

Band Give Away Album

The Pretenders have announce an unusual scheme prior to the release of new album “Break Up The Concrete” – they will give the record away, piece by piece.

The new wave survivors initially formed in the aftermath of punk, and were famed for their mixture of punk energy, classic songwriting and frontwoman Chrissie Hynde’s dramatic sexual energy. The band released two classic albums with their original line up, before a double drug overdose struck the band down.

Regrouping around Hynde the band has had a revolving line up ever since, with Hynde the only contant. The new album is the group’s first in six years, and was recorded in only ten days.

“Break Up The Concrete” will be released in the US on September 23rd via Shangri-La Music. But starting today (July 24th) the label will be giving away a new free track each week until the album’s release.

The first track was the Bob Dylan referencing “Boots Of Chinese Plastic”, given away through spinner.com. Over the following weeks, fans can find out where the mp3 will be hosting by visiting the official Pretenders site – it’s like “Where’s Wally” but with Chrissie Hynde’s tunes.
