It's been a big year for Zara McFarlane.
Returning with new album 'If You Knew Her' the singer impeccably fused gritty soul and dextrous jazz, throwing in a few curveballs along the way.
Released in January, it has become a remarkable sleeper success. Lauded by Jools Holland and Jamie Cullum, Zara McFarlane was rewarded with Best Jazz Act at the MOBO Awards just a few weeks ago.
The final single to be taken from the album is set to be 'Plain Gold Ring'. A cover of a tender Nina Simone classic, it finds the singer paying homage to one of her true inspirations, while adding something new into the mix as well.
Due for release this Monday (November 24th) via Brownswood, the full remix package features a re-work from Kjell Anderson.
Honing in on this rippling drums, it's a percussion heavy re-work with plenty of atmospheric production. Snippets of Zara McFarlane's voice remain, though, demonstrating a rhythmic flexibility in her delivery which is often shrouded in her melodic dexterity.
