Canada is a vast, sprawling, almost implausibly huge country.
So when Nils Edenloff needed to escape, the songwriter had plenty of options. "Last spring, I rented a remote cottage up in the Bruce Peninsula on the recommendation of some friends to try to do some writing for the new album," he reminisces. "It turned out to be a pretty terrifying place to be alone with your thoughts – locals told me to watch out for black bears, the heat wasn’t working and at night it sounded like the cottage was surrounded by wolves. I slept with a pocket knife at arms-reach."
Through all this, though, Nils was able to construct some deeply evocative material. Suffering for his art, the songwriter responded with perhaps his most vital, engaging work yet.
Returning to The Rural Alberta Advantage, the group set about fleshing out these constructions. New album 'Mended With Gold' will be released on September 29th, with Clash able to preview the material with a special premiere.
'On The Rocks' is built around strident, muscular songwriting. Staring life's problems straight in the eye, The Rural Alberta Advantage pour their folk inflections into something engaging and probing.
