For the uninitiated, Greg Wilson is an edit demi-god. As one of the first to mix together records in the UK, Wilson's influence on electronic music is as affixed as instant glue. But what's more important, perhaps, is Wilson's dedication to the preservation of dance music history and culture.
That dedication is as apparent as ever on the latest from his imprint Super Weird Substance. Covering cult-classics from an era described as the 'missing link' in dance culture, Sweet Tooth T made a mark earlier this summer with NYC boogie cut, 'She Can't Love You'. Their second Super Weird offering delves into the epitome of New York hip, taking its cues from the 1979 Gichy Dan track, 'Cowboys And Gangsters' – released via the much-celebrated no-wave label ZE Records.
It's happy-go-lucky dance music that hones in on the tiles of the dancefloor, populated by contagious horn sampling and those ever lovable female croons atop.
'Cowboys And Gangsters' is the seventh drop in an eight track series, released on October 23. The final single and a 2xCD compiling all the releases, as well as a mix Greg has put together, will be issued in November.
