Something seems to be happening in Ireland.
A new breed of bands are emerging from the Republic with a darkness in their soul, an intense attack which is both sudden and unexpected.
Think the glamorous melancholy of September Girls, or even the industrial dance-skronk of Girl Band – there's something stirring which is abrasive and utterly addictive.
SPIES are a new name, yet their music will no doubt burn its way onto your retina before long. Steeped in the black side of post-punk, their live shows are like barbed wire wrapped in even more barbed wire.
New single 'Moosehead' drops on August 4th, and it's a dynamic, engrossing and concise introduction to their world. Oddly anthemic in its sheer, unabashed attempt to introduce dissonance wherever possible, it's nearly four minutes of unsettling, arresting and downright puzzling music.
Check it out now.
