Spector have always been a band bound by promise.
The talent, the approach, the ambition is evidently there, but the execution has sometimes been, perhaps, a little plain.
'All The Sad Young Men' helped shift those perceptions. An epic return, its soaring, anthemic chorus was matched to downbeat lyrics that etched out the pained mundanity of a youth spent amidst austerity Britain.
Out now, it was a bold opening statement from Spector's soon to be released second album. Eager to explode their sound still further, the band have commissioned a series of guest remixes – and Clash is lucky enough to premiere a new one.
Fairewell is the latest alter ego from Johnny White, a bedroom producer who seems to use his four walls as a vast canvas to scribble on. Seizing 'All The Sad Young Men', this new remix opens in drifting, Boards of Canada marked territory before the pace quickens.
A striking, strident re-work, there's a sense of purpose to Fairewell's overhaul.
Check it out now.
