Musicians are often taught to ignore 'off' sounding elements, to streamline their songwriting and lose elements of individuality.
Soleima though, didn't go down this route. Instead, the Copenhagen-based artist held these elements close to her side, developing a unique style in the process.
New cut 'Once Was' is a case in point. Pop, but not pop; she builds the song slowly, ominously before driving home to a crescendo finale.
At times crystalline, at others fully-fleshed, 'Once Was' swings between two poles, seemingly to represent a further step in Soleima's artistic evolution.
