Premiere: Shop Talk – ‘Givin’ Back’

Celebrating the lost tradition of the punk ballad...

It's a long-held belief that punk songs have to be short, sharp, and FAST.

Well, Shop Talk don't necessarily roll like this. The Brooklyn punx know that punk comes in all shapes and sizes, and that they can bring things down low, if they like…

New album 'Shop Talk' drops November 11th via their Brainbox Records imprint, it was produced by Jonathan Schenke of DIY types Eaters.

Clash is able to premiere new cut 'Givin' Back' and it's a dirty dirge, with Shop Talk dragging tempo down into the gutter.

Jon Garcia, singer/guitarist: "It's one of a few slow jams on the album… Sort of in that lost tradition of the 'punk ballad'. It's about a romance that also functions as a kind of charity, and the darker side of that… There's a sense that the person doing the giving isn't entirely, let's say, pure in heart. It's one of those tunes that's kind of sweet and nasty at the same time."

Blimey. Check it out below.
