Premiere: Sam Airey – Station Approach (Caruso Duke Remix)

Leeds based troubadour gets re-worked...

There's nothing Clash likes more than an artist being taken out of their comfort zone.

Sam Airey is a plangent troubadour, originally from Anglesey but now living in the Northern citadel of Leeds.

Raised in North Wales, the songwriter was surrounded by music from a young age, absorbing acoustic and various shades of folk in the process.

Lending a pastoral edge to his work, Sam Airey also has a dark tinge to his songwriting. There's a modern edge, an urge to move past his roots, which seems to shine through with each song.

So this new remix has some measure of an antecedent, then. Caruso Duke has stepped in to re-work 'Station Approach', demolishing Sam Airey's work and re-building it as he sees fit.

Deft, experimental house music with a loose-limbed jazz edge, the producer utilises strips of Sam Airey's vocals to build something fresh.

Listen to it now.

Catch Sam Airey at the following dates:

June
20 Leeds Brudenell w/ Lake Poets
23 London Old Blue Last w/ Cottonwoolf
