Colourful alt-pop with a nagging sense of melancholy...

Retiree are difficult to define.

Pop... but not. Indie... but not. The Australian group's songwriting has a tropical flair, while still keeping the temperature down to a minimum.

The band have released on Rhythm Section and Plastic World, with new cut 'Jan' being perhaps their most concise creative statement to date.

Peppered with off piste moments, the stunning melodic hooks are infused with a prevailing sense of melancholy that filters down to the last synth note.

Retiree explain: "'Jan' is a melancholy song in disguise. I started writing it on a train from Germany to Amsterdam on my way to my uncle's funeral. The whole song is sort of equal parts reflective, sad and celebratory..."
