Piers James likes to stand out.
He can't help it - the UK rapper seems to apply an individual mindset to everything he does, from getting dressed in the morning to the beats he uses in the studio.
New EP 'Vibes & Tribulations' is a case in point. When most other MCs in the game are re-hashing trap of jumping on board grime, Piers James is content to surge ahead with his own sound.
Out on September 2nd, it borrows from the golden age of hip-hop - think A Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde - while retaining a firmly UK-centric viewpoint.
There are elements of soul and jazz at work here, while lyrically Piers is never afraid to dwell on the personal - describing the EP as "a journey expressing how I perceive the world through my own perspective."
Clash has the up-front stream - tune in now.
