Phondupe is the sonic lovechild of Rich Lucano and Nathan Chan. Stationed in Sydney and London respectively, the producers make warped electronica via late-night video chats. Drawing comparisons to Darkside and Son Lux, the outfit takes its physical form via Lucano in Australia, as both DJ and live outfit. The past 12 months have seen Phondupe grace Lost Paradise Festival (w/ Jamie XX, Four Tet, Ben UFO), Paradise Festival (VIC), and Splendour In The Grass 2016.;
Phondupe now return with visuals for the warped industrial ballad, 'Polyskin'. The brooding new track forms the fourth chapter in 'The Ecstasy Of -' a series of ongoing singles crafted from the chaos of New York City and a sample-hunting quest through the underbelly of Havana.
'The Ecstasy Of' series sees Phondupe pushing their boundaries further, whilst maintaining the brooding soundscapes of their first EP’s. Spaced out guitars float on top of glitched MPC grooves, twisted field samples from a recent trip to Cuba, and Lucano’s restless vocals. Taking cues from Lucio Battisti, Machinedrum and DJ Dahi as the EP hammers downtown like a subway train through the heart of Hells Kitchen.
Clash is excited to premiere 'Polyskin' and the accompanying video created with ongoing visual collaborator Robby Bennet and director Onil Kotian, bringing to life the glitched aesthetic of the series into an eerily beautiful video.
