Premiere: Pete Astor – ‘Mr Music’

Featuring James Hoare from Veronica Falls...

Pete Astor was one of the defining voices during indie pop's initial flowering.

Through his work with The Loft and later project The Weather Prophets the songwriter was able to help define the influential sound and look of the early Creation Records era.

With a new generation citing his work, Pete Astor recently hopped back into the studio. Working alongside James Hoare (of Veronica Falls and The Proper Ornaments fame) the results are due to be released shortly.

New single 'Mr Music' is a deftly self-deprecating piece of indie pop, with Astor utilising that deeply English half-spoken, half-sung delivery which made his 80s output so revered.

The voice has aged slightly, though, and this crackle seems to add a wavering warmth to the track. A vital, engrossing return, you can check it out below.
