Premiere: Method Actress – ‘Mistress’

Downcast shoegaze from the south coast...

Brighton's music scene is in a perpetual state of flux.

Bands rise and fall, with most musicians helming a myriad of projects, absorbing influences from across the creative spectrum.

Post-punk group Morning Smoke were big favourites around these part, with two members of the group now going on to form Method Actress.

A new project with some familiar faces, the band craft downcast shoegaze that swaps blissed out sunshine for an austere, grey-flecked palette more reminiscent of British life in 2017.

New single 'Mistress' has a swooping, enveloping sound, with those lush guitar sounds reminiscent of early Wild Nothing or even Beach Fossils.

Recorded by Theo Verney, it's an imposing statement of intent, with those incisive lyrics clashing against a concise musical palette.
