Copenhagen is a popular tourist destination, a place for weekend breaks and family frolics.
However the city also has a darker side. Mendoza – real name Sandra Frederiksen – grew up in the city's Instadgade area, a place where prostitutes, drug users and other creatures of the night tend to mingle.
A chaotic childhood led to a free-flowing creative spirit, allowing Mendoza to approach music from whatever angle she pleases. "When I was little, I didn't really understand the life I had," she comments. "There were no rules, and it has affected me greatly. I have seen a world that most children and young adults should be sheltered from. When I look back now, I just think – holy shit."
New single 'Love Druggie (Addict)' is out now (purchase LINK) via Atlantic Records, and it explores both the attraction of the twilight world and its ultimate emptiness.
A track spawned by friends who only want to "take drugs and get totally fucked up in some club" it's a beautifully bleak piece of electronic pop.
