Man & The Echo seem to take each step with remarkable precision.
The past 18 months have brought a steady series of singles, each stamped with a biting sense of intelligence.
This time period, though, has always born witness to an alarming surge of right wing politics in the UK. From the General Election to Brexit, it can often seem as though a dark gloom has descended upon the country.
New cut 'Distance Runner', then, is something of a departure. Produced by Neil Comber, it's a startling, original work that finds the band – both physically and metaphorically – exploring new spaces.
Man & The Echo explain: “Distance runner is an attempt at a kind of sonic lyric poetry, an attempt to de-scribe beauty found where it might not be expected. It is an ode to landscapes for which there are no existing odes. The spaces between estates, suburbs, industrial areas and farms, flat yellow and grey landscapes framed by A-roads and motorway networks. An area that can be collectively described as the Edgelands.”
“The idea to write a song about these spaces was inspired by the book "The Edgelands" by Paul Farley and Michael Symmons-Roberts.”
