Lucy Mason has been through a lot.
Dogged by ill health, a move from Australia promised much but offered only a renewed set of disappointments.
“Since moving from Australia almost five years ago, my life has been a whirlwind of highs and lows which ultimately lead to my breaking point” she explains, “I had allowed disappointment, frustration and failure to take over my life and it had to end”.
This determination filtered into her music, with Lucy Mason seizing new material with both hands. New EP 'Going Home Broke' is incoming, featuring five baroque pop vignettes that match drifting, dreamy ambience to some enormously personal lyricism.
New cut 'Feels Like Midnight' airs on Clash, and it's a wonderfully poignant, almost unbearably beautiful work.
She explains: "I’ve spent the last six years in and out of health with a series of setbacks and there were days I thought I’d feel like this forever. The worst of these feelings were usually at midnight when I was tired and unable to sleep from being so unwell. No one likes to feel hopeless and no one likes to have to search for a way out. Feels like midnight is this story."
