Premiere: Liu Bei – Atlas World

Beautiful new ParadYse signings...

Toasting their tenth anniversary, the Transgressive team have organised a series of special events.

However it's not all backwards-gazing at Transgressive HQ. The label is continuing to unearth new talent, with Liu Bei recently joining the roster.

Pronounced 'Lou Bay', the name is apparently half-inched from Chinese culture, as frontman Richard explains: "We heard something on the radio about Liu Bei, a Chinese warlord who was known as an amazing strategist and a really caring, benevolent leader. He was also eight feet tall and had ears so big he could see them. Seemed like something to aspire to."

Possessed of a wicked pop wit, Liu Bei's work has a fragile, dream-like quality. Soft to the touch, it's a music which is both epic and intimate, with shoegaze melodies matched against a deeply personal songwriting sensibility.

New single 'Infatuation' / 'Atlas World' drops on July 7th via the Transgressive sister label ParadYse, with James Kenosha assisting on production. Clash is able to premiere the flip, with 'Atlas World' being a gorgeous, addictive introduction to Liu Bei.

There's a moody side to 'Atlas World', with Richard Walters delivering an imposing vocal. It's not all black, though, with Liu Bei allowing shards of pure white light to sear through the gloom.
