A true craftsman, Liam Finn took a short break after the Transgressive sponsored release of 2011's 'FOMO'.
Reconvening in Manhattan, the New Zealand talent began sketching out a follow up last year. Allowing the sprawling, inspiring sight of New York to stretch out before him, the songs swiftly began to flow thick and fast.
Recalling this feeling, Liam Finn explains: "There was a surreal feeling created through the energy of where I was and looking over at Manhattan and seeing it as a subconscious dimension, an entity in itself where every story under the sun was happening all at once. Any fantasy or fear you have in your own mind is probably playing out in reality in Manhattan at any one time."
New album 'The Nihilist' is out now via Yep Roc Records, with Liam Finn playing a total of 67 instruments. Album highlight 'Burn Up The Road' has received the full visual treatment, with a camera crew expanding on its scuzzy alt rock riffing.
Speaking about the track, the songwriter says that "there’s quite a groovy, irreverent swagger to it, but there’s always this slight element of unhinged tension". It's this 'unhinged tension' which comes through in the accompanying video.
A homage of sorts to 'Road Rash', Liam Finn is shown riding a computer generation motorcycle through a futuristic rendering of Manhattan.
