Premiere: John Matthias x Jay Auborn – ‘Soma Vapour’

Taken from new album 'Race To Zero'...

John Matthias and Jay Auborn are questing spirits.

Eager to push themselves further, the composers set up a series of improvisations, using sites ranging from a 700 year old chapel in the Devon countryside to a basement studio in Reykjavík, Iceland.

Incorporating 'mistakes' into their music, the pair allowed each piece to veer off in unexpected directions, occasionally turning back on itself entirely.

New album 'Race To Zero' is the result. Out on June 2nd via Village Green (pre-order LINK), it's a fascinating album that continually surprises with its neo-classical meets electronic template.

Jay Auborn: “We were interested in the idea that our tech aided lifestyles seem to be diminishing our ability to be present in the moment, that our sense of location is fractured by the ease of which we can communicate and obtain information beyond the here and now. Perhaps recording improvisations in acoustically rich and ambient places force the performance to be concerned only with the moment. And not what it could be in post production.”

New cut 'Soma Vapour' airs on Clash, an enthralling, meditative work that draws you in with its overwhelming sense of atmosphere. Tune in now.
