Premiere: Holiday Ghosts – ‘Booksmart’

Joyously ramshackle indie pop from the Falmouth four-piece...

Holiday Ghosts were faced with a dilemma.

The studio that the Falmouth four-piece used as a base for their debut album was forced to close, pushing them elsewhere.

Deciding to simply pitch up in guitarist Sam Stacpoole's bedroom, they set up their equipment, sent the tapes rolling, and began.

Featuring a re-shuffled line up, incoming album 'West Bay Playroom' emerged from those sessions and it's a playful dose of minimalist indie pop.

Katja Rackin explains: “After a while, it wasn’t just that the acoustics were great, or that the room allowed us to set up and record live. It became more about the feeling of the place, and the experiences that we had there. The setting was really important.”

Recalling those stellar Flying Nun releases, early Modern Lovers, or even The Pastels, it's a fun, at times bittersweet return that moves from surf guitars to proto-punk thrash.

New song 'Booksmart' is a witty, literate return, sitting somewhere between The Shadows and Yummy Fur, but with a life and spirit all of its own.

Tune in now.
