House music isn't meant to be shy and retiring – it's not a style designed for wall flowers, for people who only want to listen, and not move.
At heart, house is an extravagant arena for exhibitionism, a place for continual re-invention, for looking to the future without fear.
Curtis Jones has always embraced this ethic. Utilising his Green Velvet moniker, the producer fuses classic Chicago house with the more outrageous, imaginative sides of Funkadelic, Prince and Kraftwerk.
Quite uniquely imaginative, recent release 'Bigger Than Prince' truly lays it on the line. An unrelenting anthem, Green Velvet utilises a vocal sample which implores (demands?) you to "walk around like your bigger than Prince".
First emerging last year, 'Bigger Than Prince' has swiftly received the remix treatment. A full batch of re-workings will be released on Circus Recordings shortly, but ahead of this Clash can unveil Coyu's re-work.
Stripping the track down to its bare essentials, this is sheer, raw, jackin' house music. Unrelenting from the off, that vocal sample remains in place, as steady as a rock as all around it collapses, heaves and seethes.
Listen to it now.
