Premiere: Gilles Peterson’s Sonzeira – ‘Xibaba’ (Kyodai Remix)

Sparkling electronic re-work...

Gilles Peterson has been a noted advocate for Brazilian culture during much of his career.

A devout crate-digger, the DJ’s search for the perfect beat lead him to explore some of the pulsating sounds which have emanated from Brazil over the years. Making multiple trips to the South American nation, Peterson fell firmly in love with what he heard.

With Brazil hosting the World Cup last summer, the broadcaster was wary about cash-in compilations distorting the public perception of Brazilian music – so he decided to make his own album.

Gilles Peterson’s Sonzeira was a loose knit studio project, matching young unknowns against some truly stellar Brazilian artists. The resulting studio album ‘Brasil Bam Bam Bam’ was an enthralling journey, moving through generations of South American music.

‘Gilles Peterson presents Sonzeira Brasil Bam Bam Bass – The Out Takes and Remakes: Curated with Love’ is a new double CD compilation, featuring a host of guest producers re-working material from the original album.

A sparkling piece of dancefloor-ready bossa, ‘Xibaba’ is one of Sonzeira’s sweetest moments. Kyodai steps in to unfurl some tropical bass, adding a wonderful percussive backbone and some Fender Rhodes style dollops of sound in the background.
