Genuflex has a rich, cinematic sound – but the bulk of his material was recorded on basic equipment, working with his home studio.
Hooking up with Dave Sitek, the producer sprinkled some magic dust on the final recordings at his Los Angeles studio, with the results out now.
Released on Federal Prism – Sitek's own label – a follow up physical release is being arranged via the Vinyl Factory.
For now, though, Clash is able to share a brand new remix of a real album highlight. 'Alive And Seen' features some glossy production, some rippling electronics, and a distorted vision of blue eyed soul that peers into the future.
Tom Vek steps in on remix duties, and his coy, playful re-work deftly steers the original into pastures new. Genuflex – real name Finn Vine – explains: "So I worked with Tom on a kind of side project called THE FAX, for which we put out a single, 'Careless In Rome' to raise money for the Migrant offshore aid station, last year."
"We both work pretty much entirely by ourselves normally, so we afforded ourselves the luxury of some collaboration! and have plans to do more stuff in the future. I love the remix. Tom has a way of re-appropriating specific music culture and putting it in strange kitsch places for his own amusement. It's just another colour on the palette."
As for the technique behind the remix, Tom says simply: "I changed the tempo which threw up a whole new phrasing for the vocal…"
