There's a temptation – certainly on this side of the Atlantic – to view the southern United States as being cultural conservative.
The reality, though, is that the South (however it is defined) is as diverse as they come. Birmingham, Alabama boasts a thriving music scene, one that seems to cough up oddball talent on a near weekly basis.
Future Elevators sit somewhere between distorted blues, Krautrock and confessional songwriting, with their self-titled debut set to drop on April 1st.
Creative lynchpin Michael Shackelford says: “It’s driven by an overwhelming feeling that there are all these outside forces happening in the world, and they’re just taking up space in my brain. I remember listening to the news and thinking the world is just so fucked up, but at least I’ve got my baby girl. So everything is going to be fine.”
