Flats & Sharps hail from the deep South – of England.

Influenced by early country and bluegrass, the Cornish outfit's take on that Appalachian sound is also informed by their English roots.

New album 'King Of My Mind' matches eleven originals and three covers, recorded in the wonderfully isolated Deep Litter Studio at Start Point, South Devon, last summer.

Out next month, it's a fresh blast of vivid songwriting from a group who are informed by the classics but feel devoutly modern. Clash is able to premiere title cut 'King Of My Mind' and it's jaunty rhythm is matched to lyrics that display a real depth.

Kirk, who wrote the song, comments: "The track came about after the band and I were made to feel very small by someone who's supposed to be an example to us "musically" and instead of sinking to their level. I wrote a song about it. It was also a great opportunity to write in a style that felt evil and very sleazy so while in the studio, when the chance showed itself for me to make it sound slightly more sinister than usual, I took it. This came in the form of a Hammond B3."

Mikey adds: "We tried to give the track a dodgy fairground vibe, a little bit dangerous and it’s heavier than anything else we have done. We added a bunch of fuzz, Kirk went nuts on the B3 and we ran around the room screeching. We played this song at a festival once just after being really screwed over by the trains so we said that it was about First Great Western. After the show a lady came up and said she worked for them, 3 weeks later we all got passes for 3 months free train travel. The next festival we are planning on saying it’s about Stella Artois."
