Premiere: Empathy Test – ‘Throwing Stones’

A sparkling piece of future pop...

In Ridley Scott's cult sci-fi flick 'Blade Runner', the empathy test is used to suggest that machines – no matter how advanced – cannot feel empathy towards their fellow beings.

It's a curious observation. How can machines – essentially digital, mechanical – note the emotions of others? In the hands of Isaac Howlett (vocals) and Adam Relf (production), though, Empathy Test becomes a question placed to their listeners.

Gorgeous, sumptuous future pop which arrives dripping in synthesised sounds, there are nods towards Depeche Mode here alongside 21st century producers such as Purity Ring.

Signing up to Brooklyn’s Stars & Letters Records, new EP 'Throwing Stones' is due to arrive on December 9th.

Clash is lucky enough to be able to premiere the title track. Soft, adoring production gives way to an effortlessly stylish vocal, with the hazy, gauzy sound filled with pastoral shades.
