Premiere: Eccentronic Research Council – ‘Welcome To Valhalla Dale’

A dark tale from South Yorkshire...

It's a band within a band. Don't look so confused – The Beatles did it on 'Sgt. Pepper's…' so there's a lengthy history here.

Few people have taken the concept quite so far, into quite such strange climes, however, as the Eccentronic Research Council.

New album 'Johnny Rocket, Narcissist And Music Machine…I’m Your Biggest Fan' is written from the point of view of an obsessional fan, who stalks local band The Moonlandingz around the fictional South Yorkshire town of Valhalla Dale.

Out on May 18th via the Fat White Family's Without Consent label, the record is a curious epic: part earnest love letter, part David Peace novel, it's a brilliantly British piece of retro-Futuristic theatre.

Clash is able to premiere new track 'Welcome To Valhalla Dale'. Opening amidst powerful synth fanfare, near-industrial percussion and an oddly cinematic arrangement, Maxine Peake's spoken word piece has a rare intensity.

Blunt, direct and yet totally engaging, the mesh of music and vocals strives to create something very distinct, and very unusual.
