Premiere: D/C – Devil On My Shoulder

Surprising newcomer...

The cello isn't the most underground of instruments. In terms of pop culture, it's difficult to see anyone beyond Arthur Russell who has used the cello within the boundaries of pop culture – and made it work, that is.

But D/C most assuredly makes it work. Hailing from London, the artist has a classical background but fuses together electronics, jazz and soul in his music.

Already gaining attention from the likes of Gorgon City, the producer is set to release his debut EP in March.

Ahead of this, Clash is able to premiere new track 'Devil On My Shoulder'. Delicately etched, the introduction plays twinkling electronics against a bowed cello layered upon itself.

With a stripped down, bare bones arrangement, D/C is able to give his voice free rein – matching the range of James Blake to the honest of King Krule, it re-works an old blues myth into something unmistakably modern.

Listen to it now.
