Located within short driving distance of Detroit, Toronto has always boasted a fertile techno scene.
A hub for electronic innovation, the city recently spawned the vivid new voice of Carlo Lio. In thrall to techno’s classic first wave, the producer also brings something of himself to these productions; lengthy, florid explorations in sound which hit with a physical flair.
Working with Intec – the seminal label run by Carl Cox and Jon Rundell – Carlo Lio is set to release new EP ‘Escobar’ on December 22nd. Named after the infamous Colombian drug baron, this is heavy duty techno fare.
‘Escobar Season’ matches spiralling Detroit grooves against a faintly eerie atmosphere, while ‘Sounds Like’ is a more up-beat, tropical-influenced affair.
