Black Square is a new project from an established talent, a songwriter who happens to work in an electronic mould.
Working with a range of guest vocalists, new album 'Silent City' recalls the Bristol scene of the early 90s – Massive Attack, Tricky, or even Portishead – while travelling through a 21st century landscape.
Out on July 15th, the record is blessed with electronic soul, with a clinical aural flourish that could only come through a knowledge of soundsystem culture.
New cut 'Shiver' opens in techno climes, before suddenly plunging into a heady, down tempo hip-hop universe. Grace Tither's vocals add a human edge to the tech-heavy production, the contradictions seeming to emphasise both elements.
