It traces the a letter from Cohen to the infamous Marianne…

Belle Mt. definitely don’t shy away from pain.

The London three-piece - founded by lead singer and songwriter Matt Belmont - have just released the wistful, heart breaking ‘Hydra’.

It’s inspired by a letter that the late Leonard Cohen wrote to his former lover and muse, Marianne Ihlen.

She was the drive behind many of his songs - such as ‘Bird On A Wire’ and ‘So Long, Marianne’ - and the story of the letter from Cohen being read to her as she lay dying, left Matt lost for words.

“Reading it made me desperately sad to think of these two young lovers who had spent a large portion of their youth together wrapped up in in ambition and romance, now communicating after years of separation and at an entirely different time; the closing stage of their lives,” he says.

“To be honest I don’t think any of us should really have been able to read that private letter, but I stumbled across an article about it and once I had read it there was just no turning off the desire to write something in tribute to these incredible people.”

Tune in to hear this heartfelt tribute now.
