Premiere: Bambooman ft. Jehst – ‘Rusted’

Rising producer pitted against a seminal lyricist...

Sonic Router is one of UK electronic music's more curious imprints, a label seemingly dedicated to unearthing the unexpected.

For their latest trick, the SR crew have snapped up rising beatmaker Bambooman. The Leeds based producer has a deeply individual approach, combining vapourised electronics with crouched hip hop beats, found sound samples and more.

Curiously idiosyncratic, the producer's latest seven inch features seminal English lyricist Jehst. A pioneering voice in UK hip hop, the rapper's approach – though sitting in a radically different area of music – neatly compliments Bambooman's production.

The results are genuinely engrossing. 'Rusted' shares the feeling of decay hinted at by the title, with Bambooman supplying some scattered beats, some fragmented synths. Jehst's approach seems to gradually fill the space afforded to him, a relaxing yet deliberately probing flow which is imbued with a real poeticism.

Given a limited edition release solely via Vinyl Pimp for Record Store Day (April 18th) 'Rusted' – together with 'Thickets' on the flip – will be available from May 11th.
