A Grave With No Name is the alter ego of Alexander Shields, a composer with a subtle, poetic touch.
Across three often shoegaze influenced albums the songwriter earned a reputation for spacious, suggestive and quite moving material.
A chance is in order, though, with Alexander swapped London for the warmer climes of Nashville. It seems that a change of scene has re-invigorated the composer.
New album 'Feathers Wet, Under The Moon' will be released on May 4th, with the material recorded in collaboration with Mark Nevers. Alexander explains:
"I travelled to Nashville on my own in April 2014 to record with Mark at his Beech House studio. We worked on our own for a while and then we started calling in local Nashville musicians for overdubs such as guitarist William Tyler (who made one of my favourite albums of the past few years) and Tony Crow (who is from Lambchop, and the most amazing piano player I’ve ever seen)."
Clash is able to premiere new track 'Waltz', which features a softer yet more direct writing style. Beautifully arranged, the gentle 3/4 time signature of the title has a palatial country feel, with the singer intoning the lyrics: 'they'll scatter our ashes along the road as we walk…'
Reminiscent of Low or perhaps Wilco at their most funereal, this is a brave and bold return from A Grave With No Name.
