Pozer’s ‘Puppies’ Flips A Radiohead Sample

A daring UK rap moment...

Croydon rapper Pozer flips a Radiohead sample on ‘Puppies’.

The rapper is making serious moves, with all three of his releases to date hitting the charts. ‘Kitchen Stove’, ‘Malicious Intentions’ and ‘I’M TRYNA’  have sparked serious hype, but his next move could be a defining one.

Out now, ‘Puppies’ is excellent – the production is rooted in a daring Radiohead sample, with ‘Everything In Its Right Place’ being sliced and diced.

Sonically, the tracks nods to sound-of-the-moment Jersey Club while also containing some of grime’s concrete physicality. Rooted in his Croydon locality, you can hear shadows of drill in the percussive tick, as well.

Boasting that he’s “been on the scene for less than a year” but still “in the booth with your favourite artist”, ‘Puppies’ is a sly statement of intent – musically, we’d put him in a similar wot-do-you-call-it bracket as Pa Salieu, with Pozer’s complex flows racing past genre lines.
