Returning rapper turned soul man Plan B has returned to the top of the British albums chart.
Best known for his uncompromising rap style, Plan B’s return has taken fans by surprise. The London boy is still as gritty and real as ever, but he has fallen under the spell of the retro-soul scene.
But this isn’t some sub Amy Winehouse industry creation. Ever his own man, comeback single ‘She Said’ was an effortless blend of the old and new, mixing horn-laden soul chanting with some crisp rhymes.
New album ‘The Defamation Of Strickland Banks’ topped the charts in its first week of release, before being knocked off last week. What a difference seven days can make though, with Plan B returning to the top of the charts.
Meanwhile on the singles chart ‘She Said’ has moved up one place, sitting at number three. It didn’t do enough to gain the top spot, however, with grime collective Roll Deep scoring their first number one with ‘Good Times’.
Other new entries on the singles chart include Marina And The Diamonds, whose quirky single ‘I Am Not A Robot’ hit number 26. However it was bad news for former X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, whose new single ‘All Night Long’ entered at a lowly 34.
Meanwhile, on the album chart Usher has been pushed aside by Plan B while yet another Glee album sits at number four.
Australian hard rock giants AC/DC sit at number three with their ‘Iron Man 2’ soundtrack, which boasts a stunning collection of hits. Covering three decades, two singers a couple of drummers and some mammoth tours the collection is a superb introduction to the globe trotting rock legends.
