PIXIES Share Garage Punk Cruncher ‘Oyster Beds’

Inspired by Black Francis' return to painting...

Alt-rock godheads PIXIES return with new single ‘Oyster Beds’.

The seminal band are back in action, with new album ‘The Night The Zombies Came’ set to be released on October 25th. Largely recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales, the sessions saw frontman Black Francis return to painting as a means to find focus.

One such stint at the easel produced the artwork for new single ‘Oyster Beds’ – the original of which sits in the hallway of his home.

The track itself is a world away from a splash of watercolour – a garage punk cruncher, it conjures spirits of the Stooges, while also tapping into the primal energy of ‘Come On Pilgrim’.

Lyrically, Black Francis describes it as “a laundry list of things I was painting over the last couple years. I took up painting again when we were recording at Rockfield, and I didn’t stop.”

A rush of barbed guitars, ‘Oyster Beds’ puts you in mind of those searing PIXIES live shows – speaking of which, you can catch them All Points East today (August 23rd).

Tune in now.
