Pixey’s ‘Bring Back The Beat’ Harks Back To Northern Soul Energy

With a sample-delic feel...

Pixey is at her most exuberant on new single ‘Bring Back The Beat’.

The precocious alt-pop songwriter will release her debut album this summer, with ‘Million Dollar Baby’ set to land on August 2nd via the fine people at Chess Club Records.

Previews are coming thick and fast, with Pixey aiming to use the album to highlight the breadth of her musicality. Take new single ‘Bring Back The Beat’ – with its four-on-the-floor beat it recalls those epic Wigan Casino stompers from the northern soul archive.

A fun slice of optimistic pop music, it harks back to a vintage sound but does so in a fresh way – the horn lines get twisted, while the beat has an electronic sharpness. A sample-delic fusion of styles that recalls The Go! Team in its vivid use of colour, ‘Bring Back The Beat’ was constructed alongside co-prodcuer Tom McFarland of Jungle.

Pixey comments…

“‘Bring Back The Beat’ is a very special song to me on this album. I wanted it to sound like a northern soul throwback, a call to move and feel the music. A lot of the singles are more pop heavy, so this track is a nod to my love of sampledelia.”

Tune in now.

Pixey will launch a head UK tour later this year with a show at London’s Lower Third on September 25th.
