Australian math rockers Pivot are set to change their name to PVT ahead of the release of their new album.
Hailing from Australia, Pivot’s intense mixture of jerky math rock rhythms and electronic elements caught ears throughout 2008. Touring across the world, the band’s debut album ‘O Soundtrack My Heart’ was a stunning introduction.
Since then, Pivot have taken time off to assess their music. Returning as PVT the band’s recent single ‘Window’ was a shattering mixture of powerful riffs and skittering keyboards.
Sounding unlike anyone else, the track remains catchy and completely accessible. To reinforce their point, PVT released a bizarre new video which you can watch HERE.
Directed by Clemens Habicht, the video was shot at Abbey Road studios in London and uses inventive camera techniques. Designed to capture the intensity of a live performance, the video is an exhilarating experience in itself.
The single is taken from PVT’s forthcoming album ‘Church With No Magic’. Set to be released on August 9th, sessions for the album began just one month after the release of ‘O Soundtrack My Heart’.
Recorded in various locations across the globe, the new album benefits from a mammoth collection of analogue synths and the increased use of vocals. Richard Pike stretches out, with the singer using his voice in a groundbreaking and bewildering manner.
As for the name change… “It was frustrating and kind of ridiculous,’’ says Richard Pike. “But it became quickly obvious that it was a legal battle in the US we may not even win, and one we just couldn’t afford to lose. So in the end, we weren’t fazed by it. Altering the name just seemed to be another step in the process for the record to come out and be heard’’.
PVT are to release ‘Church With No Magic’ on August 9th. Tracklisting is as follows:
