Pinch / Shackleton Collaborate

New album out now

Pinch and Shackleton has released a new full length collaboration on Honest Jon’s.

Even amongst the twisted, gnarled roots of the dubstep scene Pinch and Shackleton always stood out. The pair took bass music in new directions, pushing ahead with their own productions and their pioneering labels (Tectonic and Skull Disco, respectively).

Continuing shifting and morphing, Pinch and Shackleton revealed plans for a collaboration earlier this year. Now, as FACT points out, the full length is available via London imprint Honest Jon’s.

A true meeting of minds, the collaboration brings together two of the most esteemed producers in bass music. Pinch and Shackleton have completed an album of new material, with Honest Jon’s set to provide both vinyl and CD editions.

Nine cuts have been completed for the rather sedately titled ‘Pinch And Shackleton’ with one of these – ‘Boracay Drift’ – apparently limited to the CD copy.

Issuing a press release, Honest Jon’s are obviously delighted by the results of the collaboration. “The two dubstep pioneers at the top of their game,” declare the imprint.

“The deadly concision, the rhythmic punch and dramatic timing, the spry, side-to-side detailing of a cavernous stage, the crisp-biscuit vocal sampling and Middle Eastern percussion — their sound signatures are not so much totalled as squared. Truly an album, the music is multi-levelled — dark as anything at times, but engrossingly varied and emotionally shaded, always on the move.”

The new album is the first full length from Pinch since 2007’s ‘Underwater Dancehall’ and covers markedly different territory.

Shackleton, meanwhile, has not released a full length since 2009’s ‘Three EPs’ although last year’s FabricLive mix essentially contained an album’s worth of new material.

‘Pinch And Shackleton’ is out now.
