PILE Launch New Album ‘All Fiction’

It's out early next year...

American group PILE will release new album ‘All Fiction’ on February 17th.

The incoming record is their first fully fledged album since 2019’s ‘Green And Gray’, and follows their Bandcamp work across (multiple) lockdown(s). Out early next year, sessions started in Nashville before the pandemic, and progressed to find PILE asking central questions about who they are as a band.

Melding together left-field electronics, a fascination with Kate Bush and more familiar indie rock tropes, the material started as an engagement with open-ended creativity. The band’s Rick Maguire comments:

“I’ve been trying to get out of what I think is ‘the rock band format,’ and I was also tired of what I saw as our identity as a band. The confusion about identity combined with existential anxiety led to exploring my imagination as a means of escape.”

Out on February 17th, the album’s succinct 10 track span is led by new song ‘Loops’. The song finds Maguire coming full circle, questioning his motives while re-addressing his creative processes.

“Throughout most of Pile’s existence, I’ve used songwriting as a means to work through personal issues and to express uncomfortable feelings in what I’ve perceived to be a healthy form of processing emotions. While doing this I’ve also been working hard to create a career in writing music,” Maguire explains.

“The song ‘Loops’ is about the confusion I’ve experienced in the place where those two roads meet, and reflecting on whether what I’m creating is for personal growth or for personal gain has ended up leading to more questions than answers.”

Tune in now.
