Phil Spector’s re-trial for murder is set to go ahead after a jury was chosen by the respective legal teams, it has been announced.
Legendary music producer Spector is accused of murdering actress Lana Clarkson in 2003. His original trial last year collapsed after the jury returned a 10-2 majority verdict in favor Spector’s guilt. The judge demanded a unanimous verdict, resulting in the ongoing re-trial.
The jury will consist of seven men and five women – with six alternate jurors still to be chosen. Lawyers are set to deliver opening statements next week, with the trial expected to last months. The original court case lasted over five months.
Spector was responsible for the ‘Wall Of Sound’ technique, a way of recording pop music which altered the industry forever. After years of hits the producer became increasingly reclusive, but still accepted jobs working with The Beatles, The Ramones and a John Lennon solo album. He is alleged to have pulled a gun on both New York punks The Ramones and John Lennon.
