Peter Hook is to re-visit Joy Division’s iconic album ‘Unknown Pleasures’ at a forthcoming live show.
Joy Division emerged from Manchester’s post-punk milieu as a frustrated and confused young rock band. However the group quickly began developing their own voice, reflecting their surroundings in their music.
Debut album ‘Unknown Pleasures’ was a classic. Produced by Martin Hannett the album established Factory Records as a powerhouse, virtually defining the bass-heavy post punk sound.
Ripped off to high heaven, the album remains a stunning document. Joy Division’s singer Ian Curtis took his own life in 1980, and now former bass player Peter Hook is planning a tribute concert.
The one time Joy Division bass player is planning to host a special concert at FAC 251 in Manchester – the site of the Factory office.
Taking place on May 18th, the show will feature Peter Hook alongside a host of guests. Following this, the bass player plans a UK tour focussing on Joy Division and New Order.
Named ‘An Evening Of Unknown Pleasures’ the night will feature music and talks, with Hook presenting rare footage of both Joy Division and New Order.
This is the latest move from Peter Hook, who recently released his memoirs titled ‘The Hacienda: How Not To Run A Club’. The bass player has also been working on the debut EP from his Freebass project, released as a free download earlier this year.
