Pete Doherty Says Brexit Will “Be The Best Thing In The World For Music”

"There will be an incredible backlash," he promises...

Pete Doherty has given a new interview claiming that Brexit will "be the best thing in the world for music".

The Libertines songwriter is currently preparing a new project, with his group Peter Doherty & The Puta Madres due to release their eponymously titled album on April 26th.

Speaking to Channel 4 News, the singer mused on the state of the nation, and – naturally enough – Brexit.

Despite declaring it to be A Bad Thing the songwriter also added: "It'll be the best thing in the world for music… there will be an incredible backlash."

Promising "the most insane new wave" of "incredible" musicians, Pete Doherty also said: "You'll see the difference between writing a poem in prison and writing a poem in a cottage by a lake, y'know…"

During a rambling interview Pete Doherty also pointed out that Brexit could rip both the country and The Libertines apart:

"I don't believe this great British nation is capable of doing that to itself. And destroying my band in the process because I'm the only British passport holder in the band".

'Peter Doherty & The Puta Madres' will be released on April 26th.
