Indie icon Pete Doherty has been arrested by police on suspicion of supplying drugs following the death of heiress Robin Whitehead.
Pete Doherty has long had issues with drugs. Some of the singer’s musical output is focussed on illegal substances, with the one time Libertines icon having been arrested frequently on charges of possession.
This time, however, the situation is a little more serious. Pete Doherty was arrested on Friday on suspicion of selling drugs, a charge which has followed on from the death of film maker and heiress Robin Whitehead.
The film maker had recently completed a documentary on The Libertines, named ‘The Road To Albion. Whitehead had begun work on a new film tracing the path of Babyshambles, when she was found dead in a London apartment.
Robin Whitehead was the granddaughter of Teddy Goldsmith, the founder of ‘The Ecologist’. In January Scotland Yard said her death was not being treated as suspicious.
However BBC News is now reporting that Pete Doherty has been arrested on suspicion of supplying the film maker with drugs. Two other men, aged 41 and 28, were arrested on suspicion of supplying a controlled drug.
The 41 year old man was also questioned alongside a 53 year old woman on suspicion of trying to pervert the course of justice.
The news is the latest blow for Pete Doherty. His manager was recently jailed after a tragic accident, with the singer being banned from driving for his part in the incident.
Babyshambles are due to release a new album later this year.
