Perry Farrell Heads Supergroup

Morello, Bragg set to appear

Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell is set to head up a new supergroup featuring Tom Morello, Billy Bragg and many more.

The supergroup will come together for a one off benefit concert in New York on May 1st. The show has been organised to honour former MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer, who will also perform at the event.

A lynch pin of the proto punk Detroit group, Kramer’s political stance and his prodigious drug use made him a target for the US authorities.

The new group feature many musicians influenced by the guitarist. Tom Morello covered the MC5’s ‘Kick Out The Jams’ with Rage Against The Machine, paying tribute to another group who suffered as a result of their political beliefs.

Billy Bragg formed his first group Riff Raff, inspired by the punk explosion the MC5 helped to detonate. The singer has also worked tirelessly for political causes around the world, and has been especially involved in attempting to undermine the two party system in the United States.

The group are also set to contain Jerry Cantrell, Don Was and many more.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to Road Recovery – an organisation that helps young people battle addictions. Joan as Police Woman, Miggs and Ours are also on the bill for the event, with more surprise guests to appear on the night.

The Wayne Kramer Benefit Show is set to take place in New York on May 1st.
